As you read and discussed in class many organic compounds have been used to solve health, environmental and safety problems. Aside from the three discussed in class (CFCs, DDT, and lead in fuel), research a compound originally designed as a solution which manifested into its own problem.
Write 1 -2 sentences on the original use, the problems which arose and what has been done to resolve this issue.

I think one of the problems was about detergent. Soapy detergent did not work well with hard water(which contain a lot of dissolved calcium and magnesium) and formed scum which needed to add extra soap to form lather. Therefore, we use soapless detergent with hard water, it dose not form scum with hard water and work very well!

Epoxy is one of the organic compounds that we used to sticck the glasses and plastic together. The use of epoxy will cause harderner sensitivity, which over timer can also induce an allergic reaciton. --Nicole

Pyrethrin,commonly uesd to as pestcide to kill the insects and it can used in animals (like dogs to kill the flea). However, pyrethrin has toxic, the toxin could be transfer by the food chain(so the human could be affected),and also when it is used as animal body wash, some animals like cat will be allergic.

ReplyDeleteAcetaminophen is one of the most common medicine to reduce pain and fever, it also can combine with other compounds to make many different medicine, however, using overdose of acetaminophen can destroy our liver, kidney,..the only way to resolve this problem is follow doctor's prescription

ReplyDeleteMenthol is widely used in a number of products and features certain therapeutic qualities, such as toothpaste,chewing gum and cough syrups.However,It may cause allergic reaction,so we can't use so much and It's a better way to use it under the doctors direction.
